Nike and the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG Foundation have released a countless number of shoes together in an effort to help raise proceeds for the battle against cancer. Last month the duo released two LIVESTRONG versions of the Nike Sweet Classic, a first for the shoe. One was a Sweet Classic Low for the men and the other was a Sweet Classic High for the women. Along with the shoes being welcomed into the collection for the very first time, they also introduced some new design elements that we hadn’t seen before – a repeating bicycle pattern and a new tongue tag spelling out the word HOPE.

Fast Company have released Innovation Uncensored video from the conference on April 21, 2010, in New York City, in which Nike president and CEO Mark Parker tells about the advice that Steve Jobs (Apple) gave him shortly after the release of the Nike+ product line. It’s a simple bit of wisdom that any entrepreneur can relate to: “Get rid of the crappy stuff.”

Nike/ Jordan release the M6 line accompanied by the launch of an interactive site full of behind-the-scenes storytelling content as told by the shoe’s designers.  We often try to say too much about a product, either in text or in video or through interactivity. In this case a few words and a few great images say it all and deliver a great brand experience.

Abandoning tiresome lists of product specs, the site provides visitors with an easily navigated series of short cinematic clips that speak to the shoe’s features and the inspiration behind every detail. Those looking for core information can interact with more familiar interfaces that describe the shoes’ specifications, or can click through to Nike.com and other retailers.

Photographer and artist Todd Selby recently embarked on an interesting project with Nike for their Fall/Winter ‘09 Apparel campaign, travelling across the US to Tahiti, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey and Brooklyn to speak to Nike 6.0’s top athletes. 6.0, Nike’s specialist action and youth sports brand, includes skateboarding, snowboarding, and BMX bike riding among other activities, and Selby has beautifully and vividly documented the spirit and passion the athletes have for what they do. Featuring Ben Horan, Garrett Reynolds, James Stewart, Mason Aquirre, Michel Bourez and Nigel Sylvester. Whilst the interviews kept us engaged… the pics blew our mind.

In August, we wrote about the new Lance Armstrong initiative entitled STAGES. a traveling exhibition that will have its official New York opening hosted by Deitch Projects at the end of October. The final leg of the tour will take place at Art Basel Miami Beach in early December. All work in the exhibition is available for purchase with proceeds directly benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The massive artist-driven bike initiative STAGES involving Lance Armstrong and TREK has hit The Armory in New York. In what is the last stage of the global touring bike showcase, this is among the last opportunities to check out the exclusive bike designs which include contributions from Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf, Marc Newson, Yoshitomo Nara, KAWS, and Damien Hirst. The event also created in association with Nike Sportswear will conclude on October 22nd with the auction taking place on November 1st in benefit of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Lance Armstrong and Nike unite to launch STAGES, a global art show to raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer.

Paris, (July 16, 2009) – To heighten global awareness of the cancer burden, Lance has teamed up with Nike to present “STAGES,” an art show that benefits The Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Engaging the creative community in the fight against cancer, “STAGES” exhibits over twenty original works of art in response to the devastating disease with a distinct focus on the subject of survivorship. The show features some of the world’s most accomplished and promising international artists, including Ed Ruscha, Cai-Guo Qiang, Richard Prince, Catherine Opie, KAWS, Eric White, José Parlá, Christopher Wool, Tom Sachs, Dzine, and Rosson Crow.

The show unites the worlds of art, philanthropy and sport in a unique celebration of human potential inspired by Lance and dedicated to the fight against cancer. “It will project hope, strength and commitment to millions and carry the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign all over the world. I am humbled by the effort and energy given by so many to bring STAGES to life.“ said Lance Armstrong.

Nike continues to be a long time supporter of both Lance Armstrong and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, creating the yellow wristband in 2004, which gave global visibility to the foundation. To date there are over 70 million bands that have been worn by supporters throughout the world.

[book id='' /]I woke up on Monday morning and to my amazement the Poms had managed to hold off an Australian victory in the 1st test match. I was sure by the time I went to bed the the Australians had the match won. Of course I shouldn’t have been so optimistic as we all know, you win because before the last wicket falls, your scored more runs and took more wickets than the other team. To win is clearly the last event.

This can relate to business too. I recently worked on a project and the outcome, or the last event which eventuated in the business was the owner finalising an acquisition. He then took his family out to celebrate. He assumed a lot of risk and worked hard. However what about the person who started the discussions and the team of people who engaged in the execution of the deal. The people behind the scenes marketing and making it all happen and the part time book keeper who ensured everything added up to ensure the end result and a clear outcome. Or the receptionist who makes us smile every-time she answers the phone.

In cricket and in business, there is a thousand moving parts. Generally if you start off well, it creates a great tactical position to secure the end result or to ensure the last event. If we create it the right way from the start, the chances of securing a win (be it quick or long term) are certainly increased. We can leverage an early advantage any way we like. Its also nice to acknowledge the people who help make it happen.
