Nike/ Jordan release the M6 line accompanied by the launch of an interactive site full of behind-the-scenes storytelling content as told by the shoe’s designers.  We often try to say too much about a product, either in text or in video or through interactivity. In this case a few words and a few great images say it all and deliver a great brand experience.

Abandoning tiresome lists of product specs, the site provides visitors with an easily navigated series of short cinematic clips that speak to the shoe’s features and the inspiration behind every detail. Those looking for core information can interact with more familiar interfaces that describe the shoes’ specifications, or can click through to Nike.com and other retailers.

We know you have heard about Google Wave by now, Google’s real-time communication platform that was launched to the public on September 30th. We know you’re excited about Google Wave, so here’s what we think you should know:

While we suggest reading this article on the launch of Google Wave for more detailed information, here’s the sum of it: Google Wave is a real-time communication platform. It combines aspects of email, instant messaging, wikis, web chat, social networking, and project management to build one elegant, in-browser communication client. You can bring a group of friends or business partners together to discuss how your day has been or share files.

Google Wave has a lot of innovative features, here is a quick snapshot of our fave’s:

We love this –> Real-time: In most instances, you can see what someone else is typing, character-by-character.

Sort of cool –> Embeddability: Waves can be embedded on any blog or website.

Ummm –> Applications and Extensions: Just like a Facebook application or an iGoogle gadget, developers can build their own apps within waves. They can be anything from bots to complex real- time games.

Killer –> Wiki functionality: Anything written within a Google Wave can be edited by anyone else, because all conversations within the platform are shared. Thus, you can correct information,  append information, or add your own commentary within a developing conversation.

Nice –> Open source: The Google Wave code will be open source, to foster innovation and adoption amongst developers.

My friends can check up on my spellling iisues with –> Playback: You can playback any part of the wave to see what was said.

Off the hook –> Natural language: Google Wave can autocorrect your spelling, even going as far as knowing the difference between similar words, like “been” and “bean.” It can also auto-translate  on-the-fly.

We love this feature –> Drag-and-drop file sharing: No attachments; just drag your file and drop it inside Google Wave and everyone will have access.

While these are only a few of the many features of Google Wave, it’s easy to see why people are extremely excited.

Google Wave was the brainchild of a team based out of Sydney, Australia. The core team members are two brothers, Jens and Lars Rasmussen, and lead project manager Stephanie Hannon, all of whom were involved in Google Maps previously. Google Wave was announced last week at I/O Developer conference, although the product will not be available to the public for several months.

I have a picture in my head of what the average entrepreneur is like.  I’d guess pretty young (think Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.) living the red beans and rice lifestyle and working 80+ hours a week and sleeping under their desk.  On some parts, I’m probably right — but on many, I’m flat-out wrong.  This is demonstrated by a recent report from the Kauffman foundation for entrepreneurship.  The report is titled “The Anatomy of an Entrepreneur”.  It’s based on a survey of 549 company founders across a variety of industries (that’s my first mistake, as it turns out entrepreneurs start companiesother than Internet software companies — who knew?)

In any case, here are some of the points from the report that I found the most interesting.

1. The average and median age of company founders when they started their current companies was 40.

2. 95.1 percent of respondents themselves had earned bachelor’s degrees, and 47 percent had more advanced degrees.

3. Less than 1 percent came from extremely rich or extremely poor backgrounds

4. 15.2% of founders had a sibling that previously started a business.

5. 69.9 percent of respondents indicated they were married when they launched their first business. An additional 5.2 percent were divorced, separated, or widowed.

6. 59.7 percent of respondents indicated they had at least one child when they launched their first business, and 43.5 percent had two or more children.

7. The majority of the entrepreneurs in the sample were serial entrepreneurs. The average number of businesses launched by respondents was approximately 2.3.

8. 74.8 percent indicated desire to build wealth as an important motivation in becoming an entrepreneur.

9. Only 4.5 percent said the inability to find traditional employment was an important factor in starting a business.

10. Entrepreneurs are usually better educated than their parents.

11. Entrepreneurship doesn’t always run in the family. More than half (51.9 percent) of respondents were the first in their families to launch a business.

12. The majority of respondents (75.4 percent) had worked as employees at other companies for more than six years before launching their own companies.
