Richard - respectfully, do your research amigo. There are dozens of articles written about the subject of Good, Fast and Cheap, many of them dating back 5-10 years. A selection of them can be found by doing a simple Google search. It even has a wiki page.

As someone who has been in the design game for over 20 years I remember hearing about the concept of GFC over 15 years ago. Its a great theory/discipline but it's not orginal or new. If you are claiming that Matt invented it then you're sorely mistaken. If you're claiming anything that Matt wrote is original then you're mistaken too. So what's your point?

Keep up the great work Bull (your article is a good reminder of a nice idea) and "Richard" relax and take a chill pill dude.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for sharing and pointing out the obvious awkwardness. The article by either the Bull or Matt Dolphin are both far from original... the idea or concept of the value proposition has been floating around for more than 20 years, this thinking is not new and I dont believe either articles claims it as original, they are simply referencing it as important.

In MD's case, as a justification of paying for their own services, in the Bulls case, as advice for readers, take it or leave it (or assume it is plagiarism). Up to you.

So as it seems, the only awkwardness here is your comment. Thanks for sharing the article though, it was excellent.

Interesting reference to selling time though. Our editor recently wrote an article relating to selling time: http://unclutteredwhitespaces.com/2013/02/themyth/

Thought it might be interesting to get Mat Dolphins view on this... in the article, Ben states "The problem with selling or billing time is that at the end of each day, it runs out. We do not have an infinite amount of time. So we can argue, that we are putting a cap on our potential"

I completely agree that when you are under a lot of stress and nothing seems to be going right, put it in perspective. Look at where you could be, where others were at one point in time, and how the most successful business owners went through almost unbearable times. I also think it is incredibly vital to refrain from looking at how much you still have to do, and look at how much you have accomplished. You start to look at all of the things you had to do and sacrifice to get to where you are now, and it's a great feeling.

On top of it all though, motivation is what will keep you going. I have a vision board that I look at every day to remind me exactly WHY I am doing what I'm doing. It helps me stop focusing on all the reasons I can't succeed, and the one reason I can. Great article!

Great article Bull. I love the shower for good ideas. I used to (oddly) keep a white board marker in the shower to capture ideas. Now they happen when I am laying in bed, before I get up, every idea comes flooding to me. I write them down next to my bed before the kids tackle me in the morning.

"no business ever became great from sitting behind a desk". When I am stuck, I take a walk, go for a surf, take a day off or simply have an honest conversation with a stranger... all lead to positive outcomes for generating ideas.

Unfortunately, I often seem to get a brilliant answer about half an hour too late to use it! :(

What works? When I'm helping somebody else generate solutions to their problems, not mine. On my way to lead or facilitate a session. Or when I deliberately reverse the problem, for example by wondering how I could make it worse, or by working out how it's actually helping me by refusing to be solved. Or after about 12 minutes of exercise, when I relax into it and suddenly everything comes back into perspective - then problems look simple. Also, when meeting new people.

Definitely not sitting at a desk doing admin, routine things, working for myself.

My best ideas come when I'm at lectures, talks, presentations... Interesting or not, whenever I'm listen to someone talk about an specific subject, my mind tries to remember if I already know what is being said, but doing that I think of the most random things and always have many ideas...
I believe there are more of us willing to move ahead than those who fight to hold us back.

To anyone who is curious or undecided about electric cars, my suggestion is to do your own research. Don't accept unsupported comments as fact because they often come from the informed or even the maliciuous. There are many non-profit and independent resources available online. Test drive some EVs yourself and speak with EV owners. Find the right car for your needs. You might end up wondering why you waited this long and how much you could have saved by moving ahead sooner.

Rui, thanks for your article and for correcting some of the misconceptions and myths that still persist about electric cars. I believe EV adoption is growing rapidly as more people become aware of their benefits. I am less concerned about charging infrastructure for EVs than you appear to be. I believe that the number of charging stations will continue to grow as the number of EVs grows. It is far easier, quicker and less expensive to install dozens of level 2 charging stations than a single gas station. And there is often excess capacity on the grid at night when most charging will take place.

For any who are still sceptical about the capabilities of electric cars here is a review from Road & Track, a well respected magazine, of this year's MotorTrend Car Of The Year award winner. http://t.co/MC1O2nsATl (You might also find the comments informative.)
