Sustainability has proven to be a powerful motivator for consumption of everything from Prius vehicles to conflict-free diamonds and Method household cleaners.   The Wall Street Journal reports has written an article on the recent devlopments of around 100 companies in creating software/ eco index to emasure the impact of your Nikes versus your Adidas.

The brands include retail giants like Levi Strauss & Co., Nike Inc. and Target Corp., as well as outdoor-wear makers like Brooks Sports, Adidas AG, Timberland Co., REI, Columbia Sportswear Co. and Patagonia Inc., according to the companies and industry-group committees. Outdoorsy companies have plenty of employees—and customers—who are attuned to environmental issues.

The Eco Index will be rolled out next month at the Outdoor Retailer trade show in Salt Lake City. The idea is to give manufacturers a common way to look at environment and human-rights impacts when designing their products.

The video was made on day 180 of the Fully Sick Rapper who’d been quarantined in hospital with TB, just three days before he was told he could finally go home. When he made this, he had no idea when or if he was going home. It’s raw and engaging.

He was invited to make the video for a youtube project – Life in a Day – that will see director Kevin Macdonald and producer Ridley Scott create a documentary capturing one day in the life of thousands around the world – July 24, 2010. The OAKLEY Rollin’ project launched at L’imprimerie as a new creative project alongside the presentation of the 2010 Eyeshade model. Local artist Yue Wu was also on hand for a live illustration session in his trademark styles. With each camera comes a video camera as you the rider become the director and filmmaker. Have you heard of Bec-a-Licious cakes? Never? We find that hard to believe however we are quite proud that we have now addressed that problem for you.

We stumbled across the Bec-a-licious facebook fan page looking for a cake for a friends party. Whilst the site doesn’t give much away, it does however share some of the amazing creations. Here is what we found out. Bec-a-licious is a small company created by a created uber-mum Bec Chandler in western Sydney with a really simple mission. To make great cakes.

Springwise has curated a list of 5 social networks that take the online idea of networking to an offline meet up in the “real world”. There is a current trend towards meet ups in Australia with some innovative thought leaders bringing together people on a social environment to share ideas such as SOCIAL MELBOURNE. 5 more are listed below.

1. MEETUP EVERYWHERE — Meetup’s new service, Meetup Everywhere, is an open and free platform that helps people build communities based on a common interest. Organisers can map offline gatherings and share announcements and updates through Facebook and Twitter accounts. One recent initiative: ReadyMade magazine partnering with Etsy.com to encourage DIY crafters to host local “craft-ups”.

2. GATSBY — Gatsby is a mobile app that introduces people according to shared interests and locations, usingFoursquare. Users tell Gatsby their Foursquare account details and describe their interests. Gatsby then searches for like-minded people locally and texts them with first names and what they have in common.

3. LOOPT MIX — Loopt Mix is a free iPhone app for finding and chatting to other users nearby. Users identify shared interests by means of tags and preferences on their personal profiles. There’s also a set of search filters for ad hoc link-ups. Favoured contacts can be flagged to provide users with quick access to their core social circle.

4. STREETSPARK — Another iPhone app using location to get people in touch, StreetSpark has a specifically romantic intent. Users describe themselves and the kind of person they hope to meet. The app then informs them when a possible match is nearby. No contact information is divulged automatically; people can chat and choose whether or not to identify themselves.

5. LOVESTRUCK — Also in the match-making business, UK-based Lovestruck is aimed at single professionals. The website and mobile apps use work locations as a base to link potential lovers. Customers can display their availability through status updates, and iPhone owners can also see if other users are in their current vicinity when they’re on the move.

uncluttered white spaces has given the IF website a quick overhaul prior to the upcoming talk on sustainable futures in July.

The IF talks bring together inspiring speakers in to one location with the hope that you to go away better informed and inspired to bring about change that matters.

The idea of creating the innovation forums was developed by uncluttered white spaces as a way of sharing the content they were curating online into an offline forum.

After bouncing the idea around with Jason Pollard, James Hewitt (Public Design Group) and Johannes Weissenbaeck (PLAY), we went ahead and curated a panel of 6 innovators. Captains of industry who lead the market in inspiring design, strategy, business, marketing and leadership. Since then, we have held 4 forums and had over 200 guests and 20 speakers.

The first IF was held in November 2009 at Danks Street Depot in Sydney. The talks have been designed to remain small and personal attracting a boutique audience of innovators who can connect, share and inspire in an environment conducive to inspiration and creation.

The idea is simple. What if you can get inside the minds of some of the worlds leading innovators.

What if?

Whilst we can not understand what this site is saying, we certainly know what it is about. This is a very cool look at bespoke bikes in a clean, easy to use website that lets you crrate a bike that works for you. The first image was created by us, the rest are from the design inspiration page. Worth a visit.

Check out Twitter’s new World Cup site, it’s an amazing source of news for the FIFA tournament–and perhaps a glimpse at how we’ll be socializing during events, in a Twitter-dominated future.

The site provides helpful flags for each participating country, a list of upcoming matches, top tweets, and a what’s-happening-now button that takes visitors right to the soccer pitch, focusing in on games in progress, with custom-Twitter feeds for each match.
