The fact that beauty is subjective is no secret, with everybody holding their own disposition regarding their attractions, likes, dislikes and values. Many of these are dictated by cultural and environmental factors, others are more mysterious. Esther Honig, a Missouri-based journalist has endeavoured to document the differing perceptions of beauty from Photoshoppers around the world. Taking a simple, no make-up photo of herself bare shouldered and placing it on freelance digi-task site, Fiverr with a request to make her look “beautiful”.
The resulting 40 images from over 20 countries gives fascinating insight into personal and cultural ideas of beauty from around the world. Check some of them out. Do they agree with your perceptions of beauty?
