YEARS from Bartholomäus Traubeck on Vimeo. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Perhaps it does, as Bartholomaus Traubeck has shown with his record Years. The songs on the album are created using the year ring data of different trees such as oak, maple, walnut and ash. The needle of a record player is not being dragged across the grain of a wooden disc. Rather, Traubeck has connected a camera to a record player arm which is then relayed through a computer and Ableton music application. Is this the sound of nature? The video above is Ash and there is something beautifully eerie about it.     (Via ExpandedConciousness)
