Thanks for sharing this, Angelique. Talking about failure in business is like talking about death... Everyone tries to think of something well-meaning (but essentially useless) to say.

What might be needed is a more challenging insight that only a trusted advisor or mentor can be provide. If things aren't working, it might be time to turn the business on its head rather than soldier on quietly, pretending everything is great. For a small business, finding the person you can turn to for advice is the hardest part.

The other factor is our attitude to failure. We learn the most when things go wrong, yet our fear of admitting defeat prevents us from taking those lessons on board.

Asking for help when you need it represents two important things for me. One, it is a sign of strength - it takes courage to admit that we aren't superhuman. Two, it empowers other people as there are many who love to help if asked, but would never impose it unless invited to contribute.

So how about (everyone who reads this) making a point of asking for some help from somebody today?

Thought provoking article Angelique!
