Re:Route is a new app for iOS designed to promote walking and cycling during the London Olympic Games; a time when London’s transportation network will be at its busiest. The free app from Recyclebank and Transport for London will encourage consumers to walk or cycle with the use of a rewards system.

Users are able to collect points for each and every journey they complete on foot or by bike. The starting point and destination is entered into the app. The software will provide a returned list of different travel options that are customised for either walking or biking.

The user is encouraged to use their own bike or one supplied through Barclays Cycle Hire. On arrival the user is rewarded with points for choosing a healthier, environmentally friendlier option. The points are redeemable for numerous offers and discounts from participating partners including Marks & Spencer, Planet Organic, Chapneys and more.

The app  is focused not only on sustainability but fitness as well. Re: Route will send out alerts that  inform the user of the number of calories that were burned during the journey. Emissions that were saved on the journey are also viewable.
