Some statistics are quite scary. And if you are currently seeking a new job or employment this one should be of a concern to you. A survey conducted by social media monitoring service Reppler of 300 hiring professionals found that 90 % are looking at your social networks. Social media is not only used for promotions and customer engagement but to find the top talent for the position.
They are checking your Facebook (76%), twitter and LinkedIn accounts. And another scary stat is that 69% of applicants have been rejected because of content found on these sites. The main reason for rejection is because people are liars. Their qualifications of their application do not match up with what is on their Facebook or LinkedIn.
But then again it’s not all bleak. 68% were hired based on their online profile. It gave a positive impression of the person and their organisational fit.
Word to the wise, make your accounts private.
